Calling all restaurateurs in need of finding the absolute perfect money making location for a new venture!
thousands and thousands of locals and tourists alike visit and lots of foot traffic annually!
beautiful views!
Tons of new condo developments underway to ensure a whole new roster of potential customers who are cut off from the rest of the city by the unsightly gardiner expressway!
Loads of summer time festivals to draw even more potential hungry & thirsty customers!
oh yeah, and ZERO competition.
What is it about the Toronto Waterfront?
It has so much potential, yet it just keeps missing the mark.
Don't
get me wrong, there are lots of fun food festivals that happen at
habourfront that offer up some pretty decent eats. I love the
vegetarian food festival or some of the interesting international food
festivals like The taste of Tibet or if you are in need of a little
spice La Fiesta-a festival of herbs and spices.
But what's up with the restaurants?
Why are they all so lame?
I
rarely eat down there- save for the odd street dog when I'm totally
famished (and desperate) but after a bad bout of food poisoning after
eating some street meat at the entrance of the Toronto island ferry, I
would rather starve than go through that experience again.
But we
found ourselves down on the water, smack dab in the middle of dinner
hour on a Sunday night, no groceries at home, too lazy to cook anyways,
and pretty peckish.
Besides two year olds really aren't that
particular when it comes to where to get a grilled cheese and fries.
Hey if they have crayons you might as well just give it the three G's.
We didn't expect much from- I think it was called The BoatHouse Grill.
As long as Lulu was happy, they had cold beer and we got a decent table on the patio with a view of the water I was happy.
The food isn't even worth mentioning.
But our really sweet waiter made up for the lackluster fare.
Lulu really liked the fresh cut fries and grilled cheese on wholewheat.
The ice cream, bubbly water (club soda) and crayons were a hit.
so if it were up to Lulu the place would get 3 G's
me...not so much.
but seriously, why are there no decent restaurants on the water.
poor tourists.
I hope they don't think that that is all Toronto has to offer when it comes to culinary adventure.
Boathouse grill
2 G's
good view (no vibe here though)
good service
bad food
somewhere on the waterfront- but don't bother, you would be better off to pack a picnic.

we say the same thing every single time we're down that way. seriously, even a half-decent chain would be welcome when you have a hungry toddler with you.

I don't know anywhere good to eat on the waterfront. What a shame.

I think we went to the Purple Pig once, and it was passable. Nothing more to say on that subject.

I agree, I have never found anywhere down there worth eating. I used to work down there with clients, and I always made sure that we weren't meeting down there for lunch.
