So a few weeks ago I was running some errands on Bloor st.
Oh alright...maybe I should start again.
So a few weeks ago I was shopping up a storm on Bloor st. because let's face it, shoe shopping really isn't considered an "errand" is it?
Any-who...one of the best washrooms on the strip is at Holt Renfrew. It's clean and has a private room for nursing mothers- which back in the day was a god send.
After "freshening up" and indulging in a little shoe sale action, we realized it was lunch time and we were all pretty hungry.
I had the family in tow and we were trying to figure out where to go for a quick bite that would be good and toddler friendly.
The Holt's Cafe didn't instantly come to mind even though we were standing only a few feet away from the hostess at the front of the restaurant.
I've been several times before- I usually take my mom there for
lunch when she's in town, but never thought of it as a place I could or
would bring a child.
I'm not sure why, it just didn't seem like the right setting for a kid I guess.
But
I'm happy to report that they replaced a bunch of small tables for two
with a long comfortable gray wool banquette and some low tables with
some cozy cushions.
perfect.
Especially for miss lulu.
There was plenty of room for the stroller without having to worry about the perfectly coiffed waiters tripping over it.
It helped that it was near the end of lunch time and the place wasn't packed.
The atmosphere is chic, and the service is impeccable.
so on to the food.
The
Holt's cafe is best known for their European style tartine made on the
world renowned poilane bread flown in daily from France.
At $16- $22 per sandwich I certainly hope so.
Anyhow there are so many fantastic options to choose from, I had a prosciutto, lavender orange honey, and plum with ricotta cheese tartine.
It comes with a nice fresh salad to start.
It was lovely and light.
even better with a crisp glass of perfectly chilled Tokay-2003 Pinot Gris.
We shared the truffle fries with lulu, and I found them to be a bit of a disappointment.
A bit too greasy and not enough truffle essence.
But there is a really great selection of salad entrees to choose from as well.
Tiny portions, but beautiful presentation and flavor.
so that's how all those fashionistas stay so slim....
Nothing like a little glamorous lunch in the middle of the week.
Sure beats a turkey wrap and carrot sticks.
So if you find your self "running errands" on Bloor St. check it out if you haven't already.
They actually like kids there and bonus you might just find that perfect pair of fall shoes at the same time.
Three G's for Holt's cafe.
Great service
Great food
Great atmoshphere

Can't wait to return to work next week so I can start doing my "errands" again ;). Curious though, what did Lulu eat? As a mother to a picky eater I never stop in places that don't look kid friendly because I just don't know what to order for her.

I love Holt's Cafe. I love Holts, generally. But I'm still mega-bummed that they moved Senses from across the street. Lunch at Holts, dessert at Senses. Or, cakes at Senses and shoes at Holts.
Bliss.

Sounds delicious, but I echo Gabriella's question: What did Lulu eat? Maybe it's only my kid, but if it's not pasta, pizza or crackers..or if it looks "funny"..the Boy won't touch it.

I am only brave to eat places like this with a child when I am out of town and know I won't ever go back should something (someone) go wrong. Thanks for the tip I will keep this in mind though I doubt the banker will ever go for it given that Dynasty is across the road.
