I could start by saying that we had dinner at L'Unita and it was in a word. Perfect.
and maybe I should just leave it at that.
end of post.
but that's not much fun.
But seriously, we had such a perfect dining experience, that I am at a bit of a loss for words.
First off, extremely friendly, professional and passionate staff.
Our waiter was great, and obviously loves working at L'Unita.
The owner came by our table to see if everything was satisfactory.
love the decor.
simple, clean, comfortable and stylish- but not overly so.
I
especially loved the cozy banquette with down pillows and Edison light
fixtures hanging in one long neat row dimmed at just the right level.
And what's not to love about restored and exposed brick?
Now onto most importantly- the food.
This is where the word perfection comes in.
I started with the sardine crostini~served with broken olive tapenade and shaved fennel.
I will surely have cravings from this day forward.
Big daddy had the Caesar salad, which was no ordinary Caesar salad.
I moved onto the Osso Bucco tortellini~sage brodo with parmigiana fricco and the grilled rappini.
both very good.
Bog daddy really scored though, when he ordered the Braised beef short ribs~with cortland apple caponata with nastro azzuro and the Gorgonzola gnocchi.
truly excellent.
I managed to batter my eye lashes enough, and he decided to share with me.
we also shared a trio of desserts that included the mascarpone cannoli, espresso chocolate cake & the caramel panatonne bread pudding.
should'a worn my yoga pants....
L'unita
isn't what I would describe as fine dining, but it's more of an upscale
Italian bistro that is exactly what this city needs more of.
Simple, delicious, well prepared, casual food.
So if you are in the 'hood, I would highly recommend L'unita, but you might want to make a reservation.
Because
even though it's only been open for a few months, I'm pretty sure that
once word gets out it will be the next hot spot in town.
If it isn't already.
