Have I mentioned that I'm sick of winter yet? NO?? Well, I am. Between the snowy snow and the windy wind, I've been trapped snuggled up indoors far more that I would like in the past couple of weeks. I have some serious Cabin Fever going on here folks:
Mama Drama + Cabin Fever = NO FUN
I could really use a bit of Spring in my step. No offense, Wiarton Willie, but I don't believe you when you say that spring is just around the corner. So, to appease my restless soul, I will have to search for a taste of spring somewhere else.
The hottest ticket on Broadway these days is Spring Awakening. Based on the controversial Frank Wedekind play from 1891, it received eleven eight Tonys including best musical, direction, book, score and featured actor. The show also won the 2008 Grammy for Best Musical Show Album. Even the stars are showing up for this one - Debra Messing was at the performance the Husband and I attended back in July.
While the play may not necessarily be as controversial as it once was, the musical version is so fresh, it falls just short of revolutionary. It somehow manages to blend a period play with comtemporary Rent-like music and choreography seamlessly. It's fascinating to watch. It's even better, I would imagine, if you're one of the lucky people who get to sit on the stage and watch the show from an intimate viewpoint.
The clip that I have for Musical Mondays is The Bitch of Living. Here the boys are singing their newly awakening desires and sexual frustrations. Normally, I hate handheld mikes, but they make it somehow cool and kind of...sexy. What I like best, though, is how they manage to "dance" without ever leaving their chairs. Repression, anyone? Love it. Watch some truly hot Broadway:

That looks like a great show!

Have you heard that Spring Awakening is coming to Toronto? It's part of the new Mirvish season and will be playing at the Canon Theatre next... Spring, of course!
