It is no secret that I spent the entire weekend wishing I was sipping rum drinks decorated with umbrellas aboard the Mayercraft. Of course I would have live blogged my trip but as my version of the event only occured in my mind, I think I should save the raunchy details.
Music can transport me to my own private island where the wind blows through my hair and I dance around the shore like a Victoria Secret model on shoot for the latest collection. That is why I am going to be heading straight to the record store tomorrow to purchase Jack Johnson's new album Sleep Through the Static. You can listen to "If I Had Eyes" here. It's a double purchase Tuesday as I also cannot wait to get Lucky, the fifth album by Nada Surf.
Way back when I worked in music retail I loved Tuesdays. I looked forward to opening those fifty count boxes and displaying the brand new albums on the new release wall. There was always deliberate thought in how I would arrange the artists and their works of art. I relished the power to put the albums that I wanted to gain exposure at eye level, next to the more popular artists. I can't help but wonder if the people that work there now still carry that great love for music. Unfortunately the last time I was in such store, I was disheartened to see that the music was gone from the high traffic zones replaced by movies. DVDs and compact discs run about the same price. Sure, I enjoy having a movie collection however I only watch them a couple of times. I spend many more hours listening to albums.
There are not too many artists that have me running out to the store on the day of release but I have been eagerly waiting for Jack Johnson and Nada Surf to create more music. I also have to stock up on rum.

Damn, I forgot about Tuesdays and the magic they brought. All my friends worked at Sam's and hot damn if it wasn't fun working inventory and getting the latest stuff.

I'm not a big Mayer fan but Mayercraft looks like it would have been amazing. A few months back I came across Johny's promo video that he created for this cruise. I'm sure you've seen probably seen it. The sideburns are an interesting look on him don't you think?
