Globe trotting

Think Global- Act Local.

This is the mantra for Globe bistro located on Toronto's Danforth Avenue. Formally Cafe Brussel, Globe is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. My first visit to Globe was last fall, and I had an excellent dining experience. So we decided to try again to see if it was as good the second time around. The space is lovely with a chic wine bar up front, an open concept kitchen in the center of the restaurant and an elegant, yet not uptight dining room in the back of the house.

There is also a balcony in the dining room, and from what I understand a fantastic rooftop patio in the warmer months.
Can't wait to check that out when the weather warms up.
There is a simple elegance about the place and some beautiful details which will look great ten years from now and aren't over the top trendy.
The stunning Venetian blown glass chandeliers are absolutely beautiful, as is the gorgeous art work covering the walls.
There is also a huge glass vase at the front and the back filled with Californian cypress which is such a striking feature.
Funny thing is were we seated at the exact same table and had the exact same waiter as last time, which was fine by me because the service is excellent and friendly.
Chef Ben Heaton uses local ingredients which for me is the way it should be.
So I started with the Yarmouth Sea scallops, with Niagara Chorizo puree, boneless chicken wings, warm fingerling potatoes and a warm mayo $15 pictured above.
It was excellent, the scallops were perfectly cooked and the spicy chorizo was a really nice take on the classic bacon wrapped scallops.
Then I moved on to the Wild B.C. Salmon on a bed of crab & sweet pea risotto in a warm preserved lemon emulsion $28
This was very good as well, but for the the risotto was a tiny bit undercooked, but not so much so that I didn't enjoy it. It was also a fairly large portion and I had a hard time finishing it.
But tasty nonetheless.
There are plenty of local wines to choose from, which is what we did.
I had a glass of the Malivoire Pinot Gris $10 which was a nice match for the salmon.
We shared the Double chocolate Brownie with Niagara Cherry coulis and peanut butter ice cream $7  even though I was super full by that point.
There is fantastic selection of cheese as well that I would love to try the next time we eat at Globe Bistro.
Because yes, there will definitely be a next time.
They are open for brunch, lunch and dinner.
reservations are recommended, especially on the weekends.
An excellent spot to eat or even just relax with a glass of wine at the spacious wine bar and I would highly recommend it.

Wow - East Coast to West Coast - you had the country covered on your plates. Sounds divine and seriously, what are the odds that you would sit in the EXACT same spot with the EXACT same server? I'm adding this to my list of restaurants to visit. Sounds droolicious.

I totally want to check out Globe. I'm thinking it's a nice, local place to go the first time we dare to leave both kids with a sitter.

I always meant to try Cafe Brussel, and now the Globe sounds lovely. You ordered pretty much exactly the type of meal I would go for.
