It kicks off with the sharp crack of the snare. The riff hits you and it has begun.
Four minutes of sonic perfection. The 60’s fuzz guitar overwhelms, the hook grabs you and won’t relent for the duration of the song. You fall into the groove.
The words make little sense but you don’t care. The melody is what’s important.
We all have a song that makes you stop what you are doing and just listen. As a teenager you drove your parents mad playing it again and again. It’s a fix you can’t get enough of.
Right now “Well Thought Out Twinkles” by the Silversun Pickups is that song for me. Carnavas, their debut album, has been released for nearly two years. The first single “Lazy Eye” still gets radio play but that’s no reason to ignore the rest of the album. “Melatonin,” “Little Lover’s So Polite” and “Rusted Wheel” all deserve a good listen in my opinion but “Well Thought Out Twinkles” rocks out the most.
When I hear this song I can’t help but want to play guitar, to hit that driving snare and play the drums. They have often been compared to The Smashing Pumpkins or My Bloody Valentine and are lumped in with the 90’s Alt revival. I hope this band comes up with more of these hook filled gems to establish the Silversun Pickups as one of the best of this era.

Funny, because I was thinking as I read of the summer the Pumpkins, when I'm SURE I drove my whole house insane listening to Siamese Dream over and over.
