Baby made? Check. House bought? Check. (Well, in 25 years or so it'll be ours.) Deck and fence finally built? Check. (Though Addictine is getting a bit naggy about the finishing touches.) Grass? Well, we had some until the dirt from the deck and the fence build killed it all. And if we did still have some, who would have time to maintain it?
So when I saw a review of Eco-Lawn in House & Home, I was intrigued. Water-sucking, fertilizer and pesticide-needing earth covers, lawns are typically viewed as anything but "green".
So what makes Wildflower Farms Eco-Lawn different? Developed in Ontario, this blend of seven native and hybrid fescue grasses has a deep root system, making it incredibly drought tolerant. (Busy parents take note: Once it's up and running you only have to water it once a week.)
The bag of seed is not cheap. At about $50 plus shipping -- unless you want to drive to the farm -- for a 5 lb bag, but so worth it. After two weeks of daily watering, our grass was in. Soft and a true green (as opposed to the blue-green of standard sod/Kentucky Bluegrass) we don't even need to mow it. That's so worth $50.
Sadly, you likely missed the window for seeding your spring lawn. But order it now (before it's all gone!) and seed your lawn in the fall to get a head start on next spring's lawn.
*Sorry, pic snapped with my Crackberry (after kids fingered up the lens)

That is so cool and 50 bucks for a new earth-friendly lawn - sound like a money well spent (now if only I could get a house to go with that lawn).
