The end of summer is nigh and we all survived another bikini season!
Time to put away those hair shirts and embrace the comfortable bulk that is fall. Now that you all know to avoid leather pants and flood pants and most especially, leather, flood pants, let's take a look at five more of the hot 2008 fall and winter fashion trends as per Elle magazine.
I'm pretty sure we've got some keepers this time...
1. Motor-cross jacket - Two words: rawk on! I loved this look in the 1980s and I'm gonna love it this fall. But I don't think pairing it with jeans is the way to go - I think it's gonna look best paired with dark tights and my other favorite fall trend...
2. Winter florals - I've always been a little bit meh when it comes to summer florals but this year's fall and winter version featuring a sturdier fabric and vibrant hues has me itching to go out and snap one of these dresses up. Too bad I probably there's no way in hell I can afford the gorgeous one from Thakoon pictured at left.
3. Crafty knits - Look, no one loves funky and cozy sweaters more than I do but I can't help but have a few reservations about this trend. I suspect that not every offering this season will look as up-to-date as the one pictured at right by Rodarte. Choose carefully is all I'm saying because the low-end mass market retailers are going to be all over this trend and I'm pretty sure the cheap knock-offs are going to look like...well...cheap knock-offs.
4. Oxfords: I've always been a heels kinda gal so I'm pretty excited about the high-heeled versions of Oxfords I've seen for the fall. The muted colors and comfortable, stacked heels add just a touch of modern sex appeal to this perennial favorite.
5. The Bow Blouse - Hmm...the Proenza Schouler version pictured at left makes me suck in my breath, it's so funky and cool and interesting but the truth is I seriously question whether this working mom from Don Mills could pull off the scaled back ready-to-wear version without looking like she's auditioning for a part as a dorky extra in Nine to Five. If you think you can funk it up then be my guest, but I'm going to probably pass on the bow blouse.
There you have it folks - you should be completely set for fall now. Feel free to hit the mall, hit the runway, go directly to the head of the class or just count yourself among the most stylish moms on the block.

The blouse with a bow....passing on that trend. I just end up looking a little too schoolmarmish. Now if you can pull it off, it does look great.

The motor cross jacket would be my favorite new trend of the season.

I like the motorcross jacket. That's definitely a great piece to get. I do like the idea of bows, but I think Little Elvis would keep untieing or end up choking me.

OK - confession: I bought a blouse with a bow this past Spring at Joe's and have yet to get the balls to wear it. It's a silk navy and cream check and the bow is smaller than the one pictured but I can't get over the "school marm" feeling it gives me. Anyhow, I'd never be able to pull off a bow as big as the one in the photo - I'd end up setting it on fire without the aid of matches. It would just happen, trust me.

High-heeled Oxfords might work for me!
