ack- where did February go?
Well let me tell you how I spent it.
Eating a whole lotta crap.
Very unlike me I know, but for some reason I was in primitive-must-pack-on-the-extra-winter-weight-in-order-to-survive-mode.
Not sure why, when like most people in the northern hemisphere I spend my winters in my warm and cozy house with indoor heating.
And last time I checked, I haven't had the need to "survive" the winter other than maybe the ridiculous amount of colds and viruses that we can't seem to shake since school started back in September.
soooo I'm not sure what my real excuse is for eating the way I have other than well, why not?
sometimes it's just fun to drink beer and eat chicken wings.
Especially when you can just hide that extra roll under a bulky woolen sweater.
So that's exactly what I felt like when on date night a few weeks ago when I found my self with a major craving for some artery hardening pub grub.
We ended up at Brazen Head pub in Liberty Village.
That neighborhood certainly has changed over the past few years let me tell you.
good thing it wasn't there when I lived around the corner years ago, or I would be the next contestant on The Biggest Loser.
Anyhow, what can I say about Brazen Head other than I love the space.
It's large and open with 3 floors and 2 patios.
There is beautiful light streaming in though the large windows and at night it's nice to cozy up to the fireplace in the dining area.
We scored the two chairs right in front of it last time we were there.
It's usually lively and fun with a pretty conservative downtown crowd.
The food is pretty good- nothing too amazing, but definitely a pass.
We really loved the trio of mini bison burgers- Three fresh bison burgers topped with Oka cheese and smoked bacon served with beer aioli on mini onion buns- $11.
The wings were nothing special and same goes for the Calamari.
But who really cares after your second or third pint of tasty Lager.
Speaking of which, there is plenty to choose from.
I think there is something like 18 different beers on tap.
My personal favourite being Mill St. Organic with a splash of lime cordial.
I also love me some Strong Bow cider which would be lovely on a warm summer day sitting on the patio with friends.
I can hardly wait.
They have a great brunch menu, which is fantastic and also have a decent kids menu which on another visit there, Lulu loved. Especially the special kids dessert.
They also have lots of weekly specials like 50 cent wing night and $5 martinis. (Mondays) though not sure that I would pair martinis with wings- but whatever. It's nice that there are deals to be had all thru the week.
The service is good- not sure that some of those gals should be sporting Kilts that short though, either that or maybe they should lay off of those mini Bison burgers...meow. But they were all super nice and attentive.
I love pubs. They are casual, fun and occasionally you can actually get some really great food.
I'm just glad there's not a decent one in my neighbourhood other wise Bob the trainer (or if I was really unlucky- Gillian) would be kicking my pub lovin' fat ass.
next month's restaurant review- Juice For Life.

I hear you on the winter weight gain. I'm going to be in trouble if and when spring ever comes.
I also lived right around the corner from lib. village. The closest thing we had at the time was the Elvis cafe - they served chinese food.
