Today is my first official day of Stay-at-Home-Mom-dom, and holy crap - nobody told me it was going to be this cold! I do look awfully chic in my Stay Puft Marshmallow jacket from Joe Fresh but I think I might turn into a big pile of fluffernutter if I have to stay inside all day with two small children. In otherwords, this Mama needs to get out of the house before she goes nuts. But where, oh where, can my little frosty children go when it's minus a gazillion with the wind chill?

Well folks, it's official. I am old. My birthday was yesterday, and while a lady never reveals her age, let's just say that I am closer to 40 than I ever thought I would be. (I had high hopes of being turned into a vampire before I hit my 20's. Damn that Bella.) Usually I'm not particularly freaked out about my birthday, but I realized the other day that perhaps that's because it hasn't sunk in that I've actually aged. In my head, I haven't gone past the fresh and fun age of 23. Sadly, that birthday was quite some time ago.
There's a popular saying that age is just a state of mind, but I have to ask - is that really true??
Resolutions I Can Keep (I hope)
Well, here we are. The first day of 2009. I'd give you a WOO! or a HOO!, but I'm afraid that will have to wait until my head stops throbbing. But honestly? New Year's Day kinda sucks. Yes, it's a chance to start over fresh, yadda yadda yadda. But what it really means is that there's no more presents to open, and overindulging in chocolate and alcohol is mostly frowned upon. Not a cause for cheering in my books.
And then there's the whole resolution thing. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am not fond of making New Year's resolutions. They're so daunting. And I never feel less like doing something than when I feel obliged to do it. So this year, I've decided that if I have to make resolutions, they should at least be ones that I feel I can uphold.
An Actor Prepares
At long last, rehearsals for my show are finally underway. Do you remember that I auditioned back in June? Holy Moley that seems like a long time ago! For one thing, we weren't covered in a mountain of snow. [Public Service Announcement: Shovel your @#$% sidewalks! You know who you are. Don't make me come after you with this big chip on my shoulder. But I digress...]
I've had a lot of people ask me in amazed tones just how I do it - get up on stage in front of so many people, memorize all those lines, produce tears, etc. These questions always kind of take me aback, because I don't see it as any special talent - it's just what I do. I have always maintained that acting is 5% talent and 95% hard work.
The Holy Grail
Hey there - looked at the calendar lately? December 11th. We are marching inexorably towards the 25th, and in Mama Drama Land that means that Christmas shopping is ON. No more messing about. I don't like to shop before December because I can't bear to keep a secret that long, and I break out in hives if I'm still shopping after the 21st, so that gives me twenty-ish days to find the perfect gift.
The Perfect Gift.
Does anyone else share my special brand of crazy? I grind my shoes into the ground (or my fingers into the keyboard) trying to ensure that I get people on my list not only a great gift, but a perfect one: the toy that is played with more than others, the shirt they never want to take off, the gadget that they never knew they wanted but now cannot imagine life without it. It's exhausting.
Help! I need somebody!
Well, I had a really good post in my head already to go about starting rehearsals for my play this week (yahoo!), but that will have to wait. My brain has officially turned to mush.

Hollywood Hot-Ys
Now, before you get all up in my Showbiz, let me just say right off the bat that Mama Drama is well aware how to spell the word "hottie". In fact, Mama Drama lurves the hotties, much to the dismay of her Husband (Hi Honey! You're smokin' hot!). But this week, Mama Drama has denied herself a free pass to salivate over young Hollywood beefcakes, in favour of sharing with you her idea of the Men to Watch in Hollywood.
What Not To Wear..to Work
I must confess that for all my high-falutin' taste in television (and it is high!...and falutin'!), one of my all-time favourite TV shows is a TLC "reality" show: What Not to Wear. The Husband thinks that it is akin to watching paint dry, but I can't get enough of it. I record it weekly and watch it, secretly laughing at all the terrible fashion mistakes people make. That's what reality tv is best at, no? Making its audience feel better by allowing them the opportunity to say "Well, I may be bad, but I'm not as bad as that."
Then the Husband came home the other week saying that he had a presentation to do which included a section on 'what not to wear to client meetings', and could he photograph me in some before and after shots wearing appropriate and inappropriate work wear?
Kickin' It Old Skool
If you're anything like me (and for your sake, I hope you're not), you're starting to get just a liitle bit freaked out that the holidays are just around the corner and you have no idea what to get anyone. Christmas is a big deal to me, and now that I have kids, it's even bigger. I don't want to just get any old present, I want to get THE present. The elusive present that makes their eyes light up like...well, like Christmas morning. (There's a reason for that saying.) And once I find that special something for my kids, I have to duplicate this magical feat for my nieces, my mom's group Christmas exchange and about a gazillion other events that keep cropping up everytime I think I've got it all under control. So this year, I had a thought - why not look to Christmasses past?
